New to deckbuilders? Start here

May 7, 2026 · Lukas Weber

Deckbuilders like Clockwork Legions can look intimidating, but the core idea is friendly once it lands: a smaller, focused deck usually beats a bloated one. Learning to skip cards is half the battle.

My first big lesson was to commit to a plan early. If your run is leaning toward an engine build, keep picking cards that feed it and pass on shiny distractions. Consistency wins over a pile of cool-but-random cards.

Don't fear losing, either. Roguelites are built around failed runs teaching you something. Each loss usually reveals a card interaction or a fight pattern you'll handle better next time.

Practically speaking, read every new card's full text at least once. So many early mistakes come from missing a small keyword that changes everything.

Give it three or four runs before you decide. Deckbuilders rarely click on the first attempt, but when they do, they don't let go.
