What good progression feels like in a mobile RPG
Progression is the heartbeat of any RPG, and on mobile it's easy to get wrong. Too slow and you feel stuck; too fast and nothing means anything. The best games find a rhythm where every hour gives you something to chew on.
The trick is meaningful choices at each step. When a level-up asks you to pick between two genuinely different upgrades, you start thinking about your build. Emberfall Saga does this well: its skill trees force trade-offs instead of just handing you bigger numbers.
Bad progression, on the other hand, hides behind timers and busywork. If a system exists mainly to make you check back in rather than to make combat more interesting, it's working against you as a player.
My advice when trying a new RPG: look at what changes between hour one and hour three. If your options have genuinely widened, you're in good hands. If you're just doing the same fight with a bigger sword, be cautious.
Good progression respects your intelligence and your time. That's the bar we hold every RPG to.
