Turn-based or real-time: which suits your phone?
There's an old assumption that turn-based combat is the 'mobile-friendly' one, and there's truth to it. Turn-based games let you think, plan, and put the phone down mid-battle without dying, which fits the way most of us actually play.
But real-time combat has come a long way on touchscreens. Racers like Nitro Verge and action games with smart auto-targeting can feel fantastic when the controls are designed for thumbs rather than ported from a controller.
The real question is your situation. If you play in short, interrupted bursts, turn-based is forgiving. If you have a solid block of focused time, real-time can be more thrilling.
When we review a combat system, we ask whether the controls fight the screen or work with it. A great turn-based game and a great real-time game both feel effortless to input, just in different ways.
There's no wrong answer here, just a match between the game and how you actually spend your gaming minutes.
